Web Terminal

Web.Casa includes a web-based terminal providing full shell access directly from the browser. No separate SSH client is needed.

  • Built on xterm.js with full ANSI color, Unicode, and mouse event support
  • Connects to a real PTY (pseudo-terminal) on the server
  • Interactive programs like vim, htop, top, and nano work correctly
  • Copy and paste via standard keyboard shortcuts
  • Text selection with the mouse for quick copying

Open multiple shell sessions simultaneously, each running independently:

  • Every tab has its own session with separate working directory, shell history, and running processes
  • Create new tabs to run parallel tasks
  • Switch between tabs instantly
  • Each new tab opens with the system’s default shell

Example workflow:

  • Tab 1 — monitoring logs with tail -f
  • Tab 2 — editing configuration files
  • Tab 3 — running deployment commands
  • Expand the terminal to fullscreen for maximum workspace
  • Restore to the default panel size
  • Terminal resizes dynamically with the browser window — PTY dimensions adjust automatically
  • Sessions stream over WebSocket for low-latency, real-time interaction
  • Automatic reconnection if the WebSocket connection drops
  • All input and output pass through a server-side PTY, ensuring accurate terminal emulation
  1. Quick administration — run one-off commands without opening an SSH client
  2. Log inspection — tail -f /var/log/syslog or docker logs -f <container>
  3. Debugging — investigate issues requiring direct shell access
  4. Service management — restart services, check process status, inspect configurations

Tip: Use multiple tabs to keep a log watcher open in one tab while working in another. This avoids interrupting long-running processes.
