What is Web.Casa and how is it different from Nginx Proxy Manager?

Section titled “What is Web.Casa and how is it different from Nginx Proxy Manager?”

Web.Casa is a modern server management panel built on Caddy (not Nginx). Unlike Nginx Proxy Manager, it includes an AI assistant, a plugin system, and built-in Docker, database, and project deployment management — all in a single platform.

  • Automatic HTTPS via Caddy with zero configuration
  • AI-powered error diagnosis and Docker Compose generation
  • Extensible plugin architecture (12+ plugins)
  • Docker, database, file manager, and deployment tools built in

Web.Casa supports EL9/EL10 (RHEL-based) distributions only. Debian/Ubuntu (deb-based) distributions are not supported.

  • AlmaLinux 9+
  • Rocky Linux 9+
  • CentOS Stream 9+
  • RHEL 9+
  • Oracle Linux 9+
  • Fedora 41+
  • openEuler
  • openCloudOS
  • Kylin

Both amd64 and arm64 architectures are supported.

Can I use Web.Casa without Docker installed?

Section titled “Can I use Web.Casa without Docker installed?”

Yes. Docker is optional. Use the --no-docker flag during installation to skip Docker setup. The core reverse proxy, SSL management, and static hosting features work without Docker. Docker-dependent features (containers, Compose stacks, app store) will simply be unavailable.

Set the WEBCASA_PORT environment variable in the configuration file, or pass --port during installation:

Terminal window
# During installation
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/web-casa/webcasa/main/install.sh | bash -s -- --port 9090
# After installation, edit the env file
sudo nano /etc/webcasa/webcasa.env
# Set: WEBCASA_PORT=9090
sudo systemctl restart webcasa

Wildcard certificates require DNS Challenge validation. Configure a supported DNS provider (Cloudflare, AliDNS, Tencent Cloud DNS, or Route53) in your host settings, then select the Wildcard TLS mode.

  1. Go to Reverse Proxy > Hosts > edit your host
  2. Under TLS settings, choose DNS Challenge
  3. Select your DNS provider and enter API credentials
  4. Enable the wildcard option for *.yourdomain.com

The Backup plugin uses Kopia as its backup engine and supports multiple storage targets:

  • Local filesystem
  • S3-compatible object storage
  • WebDAV servers
  • SFTP remote hosts

Configure backup schedules with Cron expressions and set retention policies to automatically manage backup history. Restore from any snapshot through the web UI.

Yes. Web.Casa supports multi-user access with Role-Based Access Control (RBAC). There are two built-in roles:

  • Admin — full access to all features and settings
  • Viewer — read-only access to dashboards and logs

All user actions are recorded in the audit log for accountability.

What LLM providers does the AI assistant support?

Section titled “What LLM providers does the AI assistant support?”

The AI assistant natively supports OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), and Google Generative AI (Gemini) APIs, as well as DeepSeek, Moonshot/Kimi, and Zhipu/GLM. Any OpenAI-compatible endpoint (Azure OpenAI, Ollama, etc.) also works. Configure your provider, API endpoint, and key in Settings > AI Assistant. API keys are encrypted with AES-256-GCM at rest.

How do I integrate with Claude Code / Cursor?

Section titled “How do I integrate with Claude Code / Cursor?”

Web.Casa includes an MCP Server plugin with 44 tools for IDE integration:

  1. Enable the MCP Server plugin in Settings
  2. Generate an API token (prefixed with wc_) in Settings > API Tokens
  3. Configure your IDE with the MCP endpoint:
{
"mcpServers": {
"webcasa": {
"url": "https://your-server:port/api/plugins/mcpserver/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer wc_your_token_here"
}
}
}
}

Compatible with Cursor, Windsurf, and Claude Code.

Yes. Web.Casa v0.9.3 has been released with comprehensive security hardening including JWT authentication, RBAC authorization, path traversal protection, CORS strict matching, and WebSocket origin validation. It is licensed under MIT and actively used in production environments.

Run the install script with the --upgrade flag:

Terminal window
# Standard upgrade (downloads pre-built binary)
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/web-casa/webcasa/main/install.sh | bash -s -- --upgrade
# Upgrade from source (builds locally)
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/web-casa/webcasa/main/install.sh | bash -s -- --upgrade-from-source

Your configuration and data are preserved during upgrades.

The install script supports two uninstall modes:

Terminal window
# Clean uninstall (removes binary and service, keeps data)
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/web-casa/webcasa/main/install.sh | bash -s -- --uninstall
# Complete purge (removes everything including data and config)
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/web-casa/webcasa/main/install.sh | bash -s -- --purge

The --purge option removes all data under /etc/webcasa/ and the systemd service files.
