Configuration
Web.Casa is configured through environment variables stored in /etc/webcasa/webcasa.env. Settings managed through the web UI (hosts, users, plugins) are stored in the SQLite database.
Environment File
Section titled “Environment File”The primary configuration file is:
/etc/webcasa/webcasa.envRestart required: After changing environment variables, restart the Web.Casa service with
systemctl restart webcasafor changes to take effect.
Environment Variables
Section titled “Environment Variables”| Variable | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
WEBCASA_PORT | 39921 | Panel listening port |
WEBCASA_DATA_DIR | ./data | Data directory for database, certs, and backups |
WEBCASA_DB_PATH | data/webcasa.db | SQLite database file path |
WEBCASA_JWT_SECRET | Auto-generated | Secret key for signing JWT authentication tokens. Auto-generated and persisted to data/.jwt_secret if not set |
WEBCASA_CADDY_BIN | caddy | Path to the Caddy binary |
WEBCASA_CADDYFILE_PATH | data/Caddyfile | Path for the generated Caddyfile |
WEBCASA_LOG_DIR | data/logs | Directory for log files |
Note: If
WEBCASA_JWT_SECRETis not set, Web.Casa automatically generates a random secret and persists it todata/.jwt_secret. You can override this by setting the environment variable explicitly with a strong, random string (32+ characters recommended).
Configuration Precedence
Section titled “Configuration Precedence”Web.Casa reads configuration in this order (later sources override earlier ones):
- Built-in defaults
- Environment file (
/etc/webcasa/webcasa.env) - Environment variables (set in the shell or systemd unit override)
You only need to specify values you want to change from the defaults.
Panel Settings
Section titled “Panel Settings”Additional settings are managed through the Settings page in the web UI:
- Auto-reload Caddy — automatically apply Caddy configuration changes without manual reload
- Server IP configuration — set the server’s public IP for DNS and certificate operations
- Import/Export — backup and restore panel configuration as JSON
- Caddyfile editor — built-in code editor powered by CodeMirror 6 with:
- Syntax highlighting
- Format — auto-format the Caddyfile
- Validate — check for configuration errors
- Save — persist changes
- Reload — apply changes to the running Caddy instance
Key File Paths
Section titled “Key File Paths”| Path | Purpose |
|---|---|
/etc/webcasa/webcasa.env | Environment configuration file |
/var/lib/webcasa/webcasa.db | SQLite database (WAL mode) |
/var/lib/webcasa/ | Data directory (certs, backups, uploads) |
What Lives in the Database
Section titled “What Lives in the Database”The following settings are managed through the web UI and stored in SQLite — not in configuration files:
- Reverse proxy host definitions
- DNS provider credentials
- User accounts and roles
- Certificate records
- Backup schedules
- Plugin-specific settings
- Audit log entries
